Dr. Leo Korotki, MD
Dr. Leo Korotki received his Medical degree at the University of Maryland Medical School in Baltimore. Following that he became a resident physician at Sinai Hospital and went on to become both Chief Resident and then an attending physician in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department before opening his own private practice.
Since 1982, Dr. Korotki has been treating people with pain, some debilitating, in private practice in the greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is the only medical specialty that specializes in the nonsurgical treatment and diagnosis of pain. Just like any other field of medicine, (orthopedics, neurosurgery, neurology, internal medicine, etc.) to become a specialist you must complete an internship and residency after medical school. We are taught to treat pain by means not commonly used by other physicians.
Conditions that are treated by Physical Medicine Physicians include, but are not limited to, the following: back & neck pain – joint pain – arm, leg, foot and hand pain – numbness & tingling – arthritis – pinched nerves, including carpal tunnel syndrome & sciatica – herniated & bulging discs, fibromyalgia/fibro myositis – headaches – jaw pain (and more). We are also trained in performing complicated but specific tests called electrodiagnostic studies, essential for the diagnosis of certain nerve and muscular problems.
Dr. Korotki is very excited to join the Effective Integrative Healthcare team. He will be overseeing all patients seen by CRNP Melissa Whitaker and assisting in managing all patient cases at EIH. His years of experience and expertise make him a perfect fit for the physical medicine and integrative healthcare team of Doctors.

Following graduation she acted as team leader, charge nurse, and preceptor at Johns Hopkins Children’s Hospital. While there, she earned the award for Best Patient Advocate. Later, she cared for adult home hospice patients in the greater Baltimore area. Melissa returned to the University of Maryland to complete the Master’s Program in Family Practice. She also completed a 40 credit-hour course offered by the Institute for Functional Medicine – Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice. Functional medicine is a holistic lifestyle approach to health that addresses the root causes of disease in lieu of simply treating symptoms. Melissa is skilled in assessing patients for treatment alternatives to surgery and adjunct therapies for acute and chronic pain. She is also well versed in functional nutrition as an integral part of weight loss, pain management, and preventing chronic diseases of inflammation. Front Desk Manager and Medical Assistant
Hello my name is Rachel! I graduated from Chesapeake High School in 2003 and have lived in Pasadena, MD all my life. Growing up I played soccer year round until my senior year. This was when I began my career in the medical field of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine working alongside my mother for 2 different practices. I began in the medical records department. In 2005 I advanced my experience by beginning my journey into the field of Dermatology as a Front Office Receptionist. In 2007 I was given the opportunity by my current employer to excel into the position of a medical assistant. This new position was a life changing challenge since I worked as the hands of a doctor who was quadriplegic due to the advances of his Multiple Sclerosis. I learned how to execute procedures that are traditionally only performed by a licensed medical doctor. This doctor pushed me every day with quizzes pertaining to the diagnoses of rashes, growths and other skin conditions patients had as well as the recommended treatment. In 2012 I went back to school at the recommendation from my employer to become a certified medical assistant. In 2013 I graduated at the top of my class with a 4.0 GPA from TESST College, receiving the highest score (equivalent to an ‘A’) for the national certification exam for Certified Clinical Medical Assistant. As a medical assistant I learned the positive effect I can have on a patient any given day. From a friendly smile, listening to them explain their chief complaint, to giving reassurance when I delivered their final results. Even though I love the specialty I ended the 12 year career in dermatology to expand my medical knowledge. I look forward to every day since joining Effective Integrative Healthcare. I love that we are encouraged to form personal relationships with our patients. As well as contributing in the process of patients feeling their absolute worse to being able to return to their everyday activities without pain and maintain that feeling. At EIH my knowledge has expanded since we are not just a chiropractic office, but instead an Integrative practice. I can honestly say my overall health has improved from the multiple services offered and if you give this practice the chance you will feel the same way!
